VNA of Care New England Ambassadors
03/24/10
The work of VNA of Care New England is done throughout Rhode Island communities, one visit, one home at a time by a group of dedicated staff, therefore, it seems only natural that members of the community have come together to form the “VNA of Care New England Ambassadors.” Austin Donnelly, long time trustee and group founder said, “The Ambassadors support and promote the goals of VNA of Care New England home care and hospice and act as liaisons during events and special projects. Without the benefit of a bricks and mortar institution, where it can readily be seen what is done, we rely heavily on individuals to tell the home health and hospice story out in our communities, where services are delivered.”

The Ambassadors are currently working on a number of special projects including the “We Knit to Warm Laps, Hearts and Souls” led by Ambassador Roz Thomas. Several individuals, including staff from Women & Infants’ and Kent Hospital have donated their time, resources and expertise to knit blankets or purchase yarn. Completed blankets are presented to current VNA hospice patients as a gift of warmth and caring and remain with their loved ones as a token of comfort. As no two individuals are the same, no two blankets are the same, recognizing the uniqueness of each patient. Current Ambassadors include Kevin Hackman, Esq., Mr. Dennis Flavin, Ms. Roz Thomas, Ms. Ginny Lirio and Mr. Anthony Vessella.

Interested community members may contact Katie Rendine at VNA of Care New England at 401-737-6050 or krendine@cnehomehealth.org for more information.

Donnelly concluded, “It is important to spread the message on how individuals across our state may benefit from home health and hospice services and we welcome the addition of other caring individuals.”
